"Funfair" is a strategy card game where players compete to build the most attractive theme park. Aimed at players aged 14 and up, the game combines city building and economic elements, with each player's goal to design a park that attracts the most guests and earns the most points. A typical game takes around 30 minutes, and it can accommodate 2 to 4 players, making it ideal for family game nights or casual play sessions with friends. The rules are quickly learned, making it an inviting experience for new and seasoned players alike.
Game Setup
To begin, the game board is prepared with decks for City Event cards, Blueprint cards, and Park cards. A market is created with a selection of 6 Park cards, and each player receives a starting hand, an entrance gate for their park, some coins for funding attractions, and a secret Showcase card that represents a unique, powerful attraction they can choose to build.
Gameplay Experience
During gameplay, players experience six rounds, each starting with a City Event that benefits all players and requires strategic thinking to maximize its advantages. Players take turns performing actions such as building attractions and upgrades, hiring staff, drawing cards for future turns, and earning money. The number of actions in a turn increases if a Showcase attraction has been built, introducing an important timing decision.
In the park building process, players strategically select and place cards to form a tableau that represents their growing amusement park. Through hand management and open drafting, players look to assemble powerful combinations and synergies among their rides, upgrades, and staff to generate income and score points.
End Game Scoring
As the game concludes, each player's theme park is assessed. Points are allocated based on the height of attractions, fulfilled Blueprint objectives, money earned, and staff members' contributions. There's also a public Award goal for all players to compete over, which provides an additional layer of strategy and a target to aim for throughout the game. The player with the most points is declared the winner, rewarding careful planning, economic management, and the ability to adapt to the changing game state.
