Patria Libre is a thematic board game based in Mexico (New Spain) that recreates the Mexican War of Independence between 1810-1821.
In the game, you will represent either the insurgent forces that fought for independence from Spain or the Royalist side that tried to preserve the status quo. Players will spend order tokens that can be used to recruit, move, attack, and level up troops; or collect taxes, build strongholds, buy event cards and even recruit famous historical figures to join their faction. A randomized event deck will keep players on thier does and prevent one single strategy from dominating the game.
Popularity in this game is very important, as popular support yields powerful player bonuses. You will play the leader of a revolutionary faction in the Americas and you must carefully balance your desire to expand your territory and maintain your popularity among the people.
